Business Stationary

Throughout my years in graphic media education, my work has developed, and evolved. I have a keen interest for handmade design elements used in graphics, and style much of my work for economically friendly design concepts. My interest in craft and hand made skills have developed, and have sculpted my overall design style, Economically friendly textures and fabrics, stitching and knitting, and paper folding have to become key features of my work. I decided to re-design my stationary, and refine it to a delicate and subtle organic and economically friendly style, with textured scans to example the materials and techniques I use.

Extending the Alice brief

To expand upon my competition brief, i decided to illustrate parts from the Alice story, for childrens snap cards, as a promotion to the new illustrated book design.

'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland'

The first design module in my 3rd year was to choose a competition brief, to work on, which we could also expand upon. I chose to do the puffin brief by penguin books, to design the soft book cover for Lewis Carroll's 'Alice's adventures in wonderland.' My concept was to base my main illustrations for the book around children's fascination with dressing up as characters.

Below is the image representing my design process.

Family Tree and Advice to sink in slowly.

To begin our 3rd year we had to do two small projects, 'Family Tree' and 'Advice to sink in slowly.'

The family tree was not quite a family tree as it was not allowed to start with a person. My concept was to illustrate the life of my collections of rocket dog boots, where they went, when they died (fell to pieces), where and whom got me a new pair, and then when they died... and so on.

For the advice to sink in slowly, i wrote, put some love in to you work, as i believe that the more personal interest to combine with you work the more you will care about it and the better it will show of your talent.

Greetings and gift labels.

I have a keen interest in using craft techniques in making handmade personal greetings cards. Since Mette Ambeck came to do a one day work shop for us at uni, i have really loved using my craft knife to create hand cut typography. Here are a few examples, a oversized label for a little 'belated birthday present' and a hand cut and stitched Valentines card.

Cafe Nero

For a photography brief last year, we had to design the bag, coffee cup and sandwich pack for 'Cafe Nero' The idea was to choose a seasonal theme to base your concept on. So being it were near Christmas and all the decorations were up, n all the shops had so  much 'Christmasy' stuff in them, I chose a to go with a Christmas theme. Travelling down to Bournemouth near Christmas time on the train was really inspiring to this project, and pretty much gave me my concept for the whole design. I saw lots of people who looked like they may have had a long journey, sitting with their suitcase, and coffee trying to stay awake on the train... possibly coming home from somewhere for Christmas

Greatest speeches of the 20th century

This was a project I done in the second semester of my 2nd year on the degree course. We had to make a series of books taken from the Gardian's 'Greatest speeches of the 20th century' which was then to go in to a boxed set which we were to design and make as well. I was highly influenced from the lecture by John Hall, about ephemera, and had subscribed to be a member and receive a seasonal magazine. The idea for my box set, was for it to have the speeches designed as if they were documents of ephemera, with photos and newspaper replicas attached to give you a feel of what was happening at that time, when these speeches were being spoken.
